If you’re a WordPress.com user (or a 1.6 tester) run (don’t walk) to your “Manage” section and delete a few posts, categories, comments, etc. Notice the alternating backgrounds.
That is all.

Can I do it without deleting anything?
Matt // August 31, 2005 at 5:51 pm
Haha, you might want to post something to delete first.

[...] So I read on Matt’s blog. The one on wordpress(dot)com. That wordpress(dot)com have this cool fade effect if I deleted something on my blog. Either a post, category or comment. At first I’m too lazy to do it. But I guess I’m somewhat curious too. Then let’s curiousity kills the cat. Okay, Matt, I’m going. So here I am writing this and I’m supposed to delete this afterward. If any of you manage to read this then you are making a mistake. This post supposed to be deleted. Please don’t read this too long since this is so unimportant, unnecessary and wasting your time as well as mine. I never thought that writing a-soon-to-be-deleted post can be this fun LOL. [...]

Hehe, I also saw it being used on the WordPress forums, if I’m not mistaken about the “fade.”

[...] As you may know already, WordPress is starting a service similar to TypePad with WordPress.com. It almost reminds me of Gmail with it’s exclusive invite only status. Supposedly, they’re already using WordPress 1.6 for the backend of the site. I presume it’s going to be a pay service, just as TypePad is, but I hope they would possibly offer a deprecated service for no fee. I doubt it would ever go the way of Google’s Blogger. But, if it did, it would probably grow in popularity ten fold. [...]

Is there some place where users of wordpress.com are hanging out? You know swap stories, discuss bugs, etc.

Hi Matt, I have tried one. I created ‘test’ category and then I deleted (uncategorized couldn’t be deleted). The effect is the same as when we publish the post. Isn’t it right?

Very neat, I noticed it actually before I saw this and quite frankly it rather efficently scared the beejeebus out of me. But it is pretty swell…I think I shall play with it more for I am such a doof.

I’d like to try. How do I get a WordPress.com blog?

Administrator: #wordpress on Freenode is for general WordPress talk.
Just to make things clear: this awesome work only happens when you’re running a version of WordPress straight from the repositories, i.e. the latest 1.6. It won’t work for any version of 1.5.

I’m not noticing any fading whatsoever. Am I doing something wrong? I go and write a junk post, then manage, then click delete on that post and it doesn’t fade just deletes it from the list…

This on WordPress.com btw, in FF 1.0.6

[...] 28th August was my special day. Eric has sent an special invitation to join wordpress.com community. It was a first time since I left the WP Admin around mid-July. Argh…, WP 1.6 Alpha Admin that has been used as a blog engine on wordpress.com is very impressive. Everything is so simple and the appeareance has got more based on aesthetic rather than the older version. And of course, there’s a big progress is happening everyday. AJAX is here and there. [...]
