Earlier I posted a few of my predictions for 2007 to the wp-hackers list here, I thought it’d be worth blogging to make it easier to find next year and also be part of the WP.com prediction tag.
So here are my 2007 predictions for WordPress:
- We’ll do 3 major point releases
- People will start Wordcamps around the globe
- WP will become the #1 used tool on the Technorati 100
- Daily spam will be 10x what it is today
- WYSIWYG will no longer annoy savvy writers
- Several new WP-based companies will start
- We’ll figure out the whole plugin/theme directory thing

Well done, Matt!
I am especially fond of your WYSIWYG prediction but I am crushed by your Spam assessment.
We’ll have beauty while dealing with the dirt.

Matt,
I’ve had WYSIWYG disabled forever because it’s html isn’t up to my standards (I like valid pages). I dare you to get it to the point where it no longer annoys me!
Several new WP-based companies? Hmm… MicroPress vs. ApplePress vs GooPress?
Daily Spam? Yup, no question there.
3 major point releases? Awesome. I like more rapid development… but only if performance is maintained/improved. For those of us who employ suPHP and can’t use optimizers… it’s critical that bandaids not replace good code.
Here’s to a good 2007 for open source. I’ve been on WP since 1.0 and plan to continue to support it. It’s been rock solid for me (though I always crave more).

Sounds good dude. I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us if you do get three major point release out
Keep up the quality work

Matt,
RE: Spam, I modified Ryan Duff’s contact form plugin with a challenge question and have never had contact form spam since. Why not extend the comment form like this?

RE: Camps, I launched a new site for Geotagging your site, blog, or feed using your address: http://www.addressfix.com
I think geographic grouping of sites is gaining momentum and will be big next year.
Looking forward to WordPress in 2007! I’m a product manager for a major ESP (Email Software Provider) and would love to provide input on the administration interface and it’s usability/automation. Please count me in if you’d like some feedback.
Thanks!
Doug

I’m so sick of spam. Every time I blink it looks like there’s another couple of hundred in my Akismet spam list.

What makes spam words is people the ford the same message to 10 of their friends and so on. All these chain letters emails that people keep sending out instead of deleting them. Now your email just got listed in spam becuase of the fool that wanted to be cool and send out the same spam he got.
